The Becontree Wheelers Cycling Club

The Becontree Wheelers membership is drawn mainly from East London and South West Essex although we do have members who live as far away as Manchester, Reading and Nottingham.

The club caters for all cycling disciplines. Our present strength lies in Time Trialling, where members have won Team prizes in a number of local events in the past few years.

The popular Friday evening 10 mile Time Trial series is held on the E16/10 course.  Organised in an informal manner, members of other clubs affiliated to Cycling Time Trials are always welcome to enter on the line. The series also provides three separate competitions for club riders, one based on times another on finishing positions together with a handicap prize for the rider making the greatest improvement.

Sunday Run Club members meet by the bus stop outside Corbetts Tey cemetery (RM14 2UY) each Sunday morning for a gentle social ride. Newcomers as well as club members are welcome to participate but they leave at 8:30 am sharp so don't be late. The length of the ride and the route are generally agreed at the time. For more information, contact Terry Carr at terencecarr62@gmail.com.

The off road section of the club goes out twice a week.  We meet at Hacton Lane playground car park at 9am on Saturday mornings and at 9.30 am on Wednesday mornings. You will need an off road machine as most of the riding is on trails.

For more information, contact the club or complete our on-line membership application.

Follow members' progess via Strava. You too can join through the club's page on the Strava web site.

In past years, the club organised a summer trip to France for a mixture of leisure cycling, good food, wine and companionship, with an opportunity to watch stages of the Tour De France thrown in. This was held in conjunction with our friends the Epsom CC.

Our list of promotions has been impressive. The Romford-Harlow Road race was a well established early season event for Elite and other senior categories. The 2000 edition was included on the BCF Premier Calendar. Its organisational team, led by Alan Sanders, and in association with the Harlow CC, won extensive praise from riders and officials alike. Unfortunately we will not be able to promote this event for 2018.

See our "Events" page for details of these and other promotions.

The club is prominent in Cycling administration. In the past our members have served on local and national committees of British Cycling and local committees of Cycling Time Trials.
